Welcome
In these pages you will find a collection of the artifacts that demonstrate mastery of the standards for teaching students with exceptional needs. The work is the culmination of my studies at the University of New England. You can use the Table of Contents to link to the pages, or you can scroll through the sidebar on the left.
Currently I am an intervention specialist for grades 9-12 in a small, rural school district. I created a learning center during my first five years here. Then I took a leave of absence and completed a two-year, overseas teaching experience in Egypt. Now I am back in my first classroom, and the learning center continues to grow in our service to at-risk students.
In addition to the students who have individual education plans, I serve students who are at risk of failing or dropping out. I have focused my professional development studies on educational technology and phonics instruction. The learning center has five computers dedicated for student use. Each one has the Kurzweil program, access to the Internet, various assistive technologies, and numerous educational software programs. I share my technology skills with other teachers in professional development workshops.
